Behind every fake smile there is a hurting heart, a story so moving that would tear our hearts apart….
Way too many times people smile to hide the frowns, to hide the pain, to stop the tears. It’s easier to put a smile on than to explain your suffering. It is hard for others to relate to you, to understand your struggles or to imagine being in your shoes – and because of this, because of the struggle and risk of not being understood, too many people hide their true feelings, their life threatening thoughts and experiences, choose to put on a smile and pretend that nothing is going on.
Other times people put on a smile to give themselves that glimmer of hope that in reality seems nowhere to be found. For those communities affected by wars and natural disasters, for these people living under the poverty line, for those being exploited or in fear for their life or experiencing other problems that the first world, most times, chooses to ignore as they are not part of our everyday reality. For all those and so many others that are experiencing suffering, a smile is the only thing keeping them going – a smile that represents the much needed hope for a better tomorrow…
Most times suffering is ignored not because we do not care, but because we do not know about it; because people choose not to share their sad stories, because many stories do not make it all around the world or simply because there is no one interested or willing to tell these stories. Only by knowing the suffering of others we can find a way of helping them and, perhaps, get a better understanding of our own struggles and even get to help ourselves.
“Behind The Fake Smiles” aims to become much more than a creative outlet for sharing the stories of those in need of being heard; it will aim to become a platform through which the audience will not only be able to understand a different world than their own, a little better, but as well a platform for helping those in need, giving hope to the hopeless, giving courage to those afraid to speak up and inspiring people to dream about a better tomorrow.
PS: If you like this concept and you would like to help or be involved, if you have a story, your own or someone else’s, that you would like to share or if you simply want to tell me what you think about this idea, please don’t hesitate to message me.
PPS: I know this is an ambitious project with a mission that will not be easy to accomplish. I have always been passionate about telling stories, always wanted to be able to give a voice to the voiceless and help those in need. “Behind The Fake Smiles” is a project that has been on my mind for a very long time and my fear of writing and sharing my media content is the only thing that kept me from bringing it to life. As I am in the process of fully overcoming this fear, I am fully committed to make this idea reality.
